
This striking ceramic vase was handcrafted in Chulucanas, a town on the north coast of Peru. Classic Chulucanas pieces feature geometric designs done in black and white. However, in recent years potters have been experimenting with new designs and techniques, as here.This vase was produced through a burnt-paint technique that produces the mottled background effect. It features two figures from the famous Nazca Lines of the southern Peruvian desert, the Dog and the Monkey. The figures were etched into the clay and highlighted in black
